Suspect in custody after hours-long Beverly Hills standoff

BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (KABC) -- An allegedly armed man suspected in the attempted murder of a sheriff's deputy was taken into custody Monday morning following an hours-long standoff in Beverly Hills.

Video from overnight shows authorities shooting flash bangs at the barricaded suspect. Just before 2:30 a.m., The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said the suspect was taken into custody.

It all started around 3 a.m. Sunday, when deputies conducted a traffic stop and attempted to detain the suspect, who then fled.

That's when he reportedly struck a deputy with his pickup truck, leading to the attempted murder of a peace officer warrant.

The deputy suffered minor injuries and wasn't hospitalized.

A hostage was released nearly eight hours into a standoff with an armed suspect barricaded inside a pickup truck in Beverly Hills on Sunday.

Hours later, around 1:30 p.m., a license plate reader in Beverly Hills picked up the suspect's plates, according to the department. Beverly Hills police attempted to stop the truck, sparking a short chase.

The chase came to an end when the suspect crashed into a second vehicle near Burton Way and Robertson Boulevard around 3 p.m., police said. That's when the hour-long standoff began.

The suspect refused to come out and refused to free a hostage from the vehicle for hours, according to police.

AIR7 video captured the moment the female hostage finally got out of the vehicle shortly before 11 p.m. Sunday. The relationship between the victim and the suspect was unclear.
